Sarah Lancashire stars in this compelling crime thriller as Catherine Cawood, a police sergeant in a small town where drunkards, drug addicts and teenage pregnancies are a way of life. Her world is turned upside down when the man she thinks is responsible for her daughter's death - Tommy Lee Royce - is released from prison. Meanwhile, quiet accountant Kevin Weatherill feels underappreciated and underpaid at work. Desperate to give his daughters a decent education, he asks for a pay rise so he can send them to private school. But when his wealthy boss Nevison refuses, something finally snaps for Kevin and he enlists the help of local drug lord Ashley to kidnap Nevison's daughter and hold her for ransom. Things quickly spiral out of control when Ashley involves Tommy Lee in the plan. How far will any of them go to get what they really want?

  • Absolutely riveting.

The acting and screenplay are first-class, and the excellent plot moves along at a good pace. I was totally hooked from episode one. I tried very hard not to binge view the lot in one evening, but failed. That’s how compelling it is.
  • I never understood the meaning of ‘Edge of Seat’ until I watched Happy Valley

Happy Valley has proven to be one of the greatest shows I’ve ever watched. I heard great reviews and decided to check it out. Everything, from the writing to the acting is top notch. Sarah Lancashire and James Norton are magnificent, top of the acting game and Sally Wainwright has written a phenomenal piece of television. I binged on Happy Valley over two days - I was on the edge of my seat, heart racing while watching some of the episodes. I strongly urge you to watch it. The characters and setting make Happy Valley seem very real. Easily the best British show I’ve ever watched! Well done BBC for creating a masterpiece! I cannot wait for series two.

  • BAFTA recognition required #SarahLancashire

This series was gripping, a real treat. See it for Sarah Lancashire's superbly subtle tour de force. If she doesn't win the BAFTA I'll rip it off the recipient and hand it to her myself.

Great Series, but come on iTunes what's with the delayed episode
  • Up there with Nordic noir

TERRIFIC show. Incredible acting. I don't share the concerns about the flashbacks. I think that the portrayal of PTSD is extremely well done. As some who suffers from this, perhaps the discomfort of viewers might lead to better understanding? My only complaint is that it's delayed until after it leaves iPlayer. I'm an overseas viewer, but I'm PAYING for it too. A lot more per minute than licence fee payers. Such a policy only serves to encourage other download options. This is the 21st century, people.
  • Where is EP6?

Great series but I'm marking it down in protest at the delayed release of these episodes.
