Description

When Shadow Moon is released from prison, he meets the mysterious Mr. Wednesday and a storm begins to brew. Little does Shadow know, this storm will change the course of his entire life. Left adrift by the recent, tragic death of his wife, and suddenly hired as Mr. Wednesday's bodyguard, Shadow finds himself in the center of a world that he struggles to understand. It's a hidden world where magic is real, where the Old Gods fear both irrelevance and the growing power of the New Gods. Mr. Wednesday seeks to build a coalition of Old Gods to defend their existence in this new America, and reclaim some of the influence that they've lost. As Shadow travels across the country with Mr. Wednesday, he struggles to accept this new reality, and his place in it.

Interesting, creative and mesmerizing. I binge watched every episode in one day I couldn’t turn it off!
  • Agenda trumps storytelling...what a waste

This show is visually striking but thats about it. Most episodes are long mellodramatic, often angry and petulant comentaries on how screwed up the world is. The episodes meander along leaving much unresolved. None of the characters are likeable... Wednesday has potential, but the perpetual vague insights he delivers get old quickly. Shadow has visual presence, but as a character he just comes off as a stupid cow being led. Laura Moon might be the most unlikeable character i've ever seen in a show. Even Mad Sweeny gets old after a few episodes. The other "God's" aren't really developed enough for the average viewer to understand their place in mythology/theology. You need to spend some time doing research to fully appreciate the characters, and the rest of the show just isn't good enough to warrant that investment. The rest of the show takes aim at all the villains of the current zeitgeist, White men in general take a beating in this show. It's stuff you could see for free on any news channel. Probably would have made a good mini-series or even a long movie. Stretching across two seasons with a third in mind is making mostly filler and commentary. I'm giving up on it with the end of the second season.

I started watching with no expectations(never read the book)and was very entertained from beginning to end.The acting in my opinion was oscar worthy. At first the story does seem vulgar but does add to the shock value in a world where gods roam the streets and use humans as pawns.you won't be disappointed.
  • Boring!

It's so boring, nothing is happening! The first season was ok and now the second season just degenerated into further oblivion. You're better off just watching it free online.

Great writing, great acting, great imagery, a wonderful story, and “blow your mind” originality.

Boring. Attempts to be cutting edge and risky. Instead, it is just boring.
  • Great show.

It’s an original gem of a show.
  • Best Neil Gaiman adaptation ever

I fell in love with Neil Gaiman’s work with The Sandman originally, but then took a chance on reading American Gods after completing the graphic novels. The book dragged me in hard; it was the first time in my life where I got addicted to a book and couldn’t put it down until I was finished. So my expectations were high for an adaptation and they absolutely delivered. My imagination is more grand than what can be put on the screen within a budget, but I’m thoroughly satisfied with what they created. The casting was superb too and as a “The 100” fan, I’m glad Whittle got the main role. I hope this show is seen through to its end without cancellation and potentially moves into a spin off with Anansi Boys. The main issue I have is with marketing. I’m an avid Gaiman reader and had not heard about this show until I stumbled across it after its premiere. It needs more appropriate advertising for our era with YouTube, Facebook, other social media.
