Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch head up the cast in the story of a bizarre murder case that brings together three law-enforcement officers and a career criminal. Set in the all-industrial city of Vinci in L.A. County, California, the show follows a compromised detective (Farrell), a criminal and entrepreneur (Vaughn) with troubles of his own, a Ventura County Sheriff's detective (McAdams) at odds with the system, and war vet and motorcycle cop (Kitsch) who discovers a disturbing crime scene that triggers an investigation involving three law-enforcement groups, multiple criminal collusions, and billions of dollars.

Season 1 was so amazing that seasons 2 did not hit the spot at all. I watched first episode and wanted to skip to Season 3 which is not on Itunes yet

It was ok not even as close as good as the first season

After loving Season 1 of True Detective, this Season 2 attempt was just that -- an attempt, and not a very successful one. First of all, I love Vince Vaughn, but he was WAY miscast for this kind of drama. He's good in bromance comedies, but that's the extent of his range. I cringed every time he tried to make a tough-guy move or a passionate speech in this show -- it just looked and felt silly. And why was he affecting a lame East Coast accent when he was clearly in L.A.? Just because he thought of himself as a "wise guy"? And when Colin Ferrel tries to show anguish or any strong emotion, it just seems like he's trying too hard. I made it through to the end of the season, but just barely.

    More episodes!
  • JUNK

This season should not have been made with Adams, this is not the role for her. The First Season is excellent by Harrelson, and McConaughey. I liked Farrell and Vaughn - great actors and great roles for them too.

This was fantastic. I hate TV these days, its mostly all terrible; but this, outstanding. Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel Mcadams, Tyler Kitsch, and all the rest....absolutely fantastic. The story, the music, the production is all great. I can't say enough, its just that good.
  • Despite Cast - Falls Short

This is the first review I've written on ITunes - but after being riveted with True Detective Season 1 - sorely disappointed in the follow up. Disjointed, poor plot development, and a missed stretch at "artsy" cut aways, etc . . .The only thing that saves this show from a refund is Vaughn.
  • Gripping!

If you are comparing seasons, there is no comparison. They are different shows, and go in different directions. For me, Season 1 was on the surface and great, and Season 2 is deep and even better. This is as good as a television show that you will ever watch. Acting, Plot, you will be locked in.

Amazing show very different from the first season but great. Disregard bad reviews of the spoon feeders and watch this more than once!

Do not even try to compare with the first season. The second season is great but in the different way. It has a different psychological spin.
