True Detective: a shocking new case is seen from the perspective of a superb new cast in Season 2 of this acclaimed series. Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch head up the cast in the story of a bizarre murder case that brings together three law-enforcement officers and a career criminal. Set in the all-industrial city of Vinci in L.A. County, California, the show follows a compromised detective (Farrell), a criminal and entrepreneur (Vaughn) with troubles of his own, a Ventura County Sheriff's detective (McAdams) at odds with the system, and war vet and motorcycle cop (Kitsch) who discovers a disturbing crime scene that triggers an investigation involving three law-enforcement groups, multiple criminal collusions, and billions of dollars.

  • Without reserve.

Really great. Comparisons with season one are moot. This is a whole other thing. And its a genuinely good thing.

I must have missed something. Seriously ungripping! Tried too hard too make complex characters with a redundant plot.

Compared to the first sublime series this just didnt work at all - not worth it - the first series is superb though
  • What an absolute shocker.

An absolutely shocking load of self-indulgent drivel. Season 1 was amazing, the performances were mesmerising, and they had a purpose and point to the ‘spaced-out’ style of narrative and acting. This season however was a long, stretched out series of self-indulgent, pretentious stares, seriously random 'club guitar player cut-scenes’, and extremely conceited dialogue with absolutely no purpose, sense or gravitas afforded alongside them. A cast of stars reduced to the silliest and most nonsensical plot. Not just a terrible disappointment after the brilliant first season, but a shocker *in its own right*. There were only a handful of clever or standout elements of the entire show. What a depressing, pointless, stupid and extremely dissatisfying (although partly predictable) finale.
  • Shame on the critics!

I was so convinced by the bad reviews, having loved Season 1, that I resorted, late, to a free download to check it out before buying. Result: I'm buying legally now because it is still a outstanding TV series and certainly didn't deserve the negative reception it went down to. Good story and great performances, very much looking forward to series 3.
  • Stick with it

Mixed reviews on here, its not 5 stars, nor is it 1. It is a good story, dark gritty and intriguing - but you have to make it through to episode 4 before it gets good. Stick with it and binge watch.
  • Not so good

The acting was good. Convoluted story and a disappointing ending.
  • Head and shoulders above most of the competition

Dark, engaging and gritty, this series is far better than all the poor reviews in the mainstream media suggest. It's not without flaws (the plot gets a little convoluted and it doesn't quite have the finesse of the first series). However, it's really watchable and the characters are well drawn. Well worth your time and much better than other generic cop shows.
  • Very poor

This is nothing but a rambling pointless story. Great acting doesn't mean a thing if the story is appalling. Season one was a masterpiece and would always have been difficult to emulate. I was willing to give this the benefit of the doubt, hoping that at some point it would turn a corner. This programme has taken 8 hours of my life that I'll never get back. Shame on you.

Season 1 if you have seen it you are likely still reeling with the performances and crafted scripting and story. Season 2, good very good, worth your time and money but not quite up there with season 1. great acting, solid story, great script, enjoyable entertainment and once again ruthless and disturbing.
