Probably the worst Perry movie ever made. I only watched it because it was included as part of the iTunes bundle that I purchased. Really, really painful to watch. Most Perry movies are only for mild entertainment as is and shouldnt be expected to be complex. However, I was really suprised at how bad this one was.
Love it

***SPOILERS AHEAD***
This movie has no redeeming qualities at all. Gratuitously dark with discriminatory undertones. Though it is set forth as a cautionary tale about temptation and the devaluation of marriage, the overrarching theme has little to do with the sanctity of marriage and more to do with an archaically punitive attitude towards women who cheat. The AIDS diagnosis conveys the subtle but clear message that a woman who commits adultery is to pay for it with her life. The protagonist's illness is her scarlet letter, her death-by-stoning, a sick form of poetic justice for scorned husbands everywhere. It isn't enough that she has to watch her ex-husband remarry and have children with somone else; she must one day (presumably) die alone with no one to help her down off the cross. In the final scene, the protagonist appears acquiescent to her fate, subtly attributing her condition to her infidelity and not to the man who deliberately concealed his HIV status or a lack of adequate prevention. This misleading portrayal of the connection between infidelity and AIDS is not unlike that of the connection between homosexuality and AIDS. It validates a minority belief among the religious right that AIDS is divine punishment for sexual immorality when in fact it is a medical condition and public health crisis. Shame on Tyler Perry for perpetuating such prejudice when there is already more than enough to go around. I regret having supported this franchise.

This movie is not one of Tyler Perry's best. He's dropping movies like cars coming off the factory plant floor and the quality is lacking every year he puts one out.
He's got about 5 or 6 shows on TV & a new movie every year. It's too much! Give people a chance to really anticipated a movie Tyler! This was okay, flat mediocre acting and I can't believe it's still priced at $16.99 HD & $15.99 SD. You really need to put this one in the $7.99 bin.
Worst. Movie. Ever.

Some people are writing some pretty harsh reviews but, I on the other hand would totally disagree with those comments. This is a great movie and teaches everyone a lesson about the whole "don't loose your diamond by picking up a rock."
flat as a pancake, stiff as a board.

It is just freaking amazing how the work of an envelope pushing, original genius can get so little attention while that of a single-minded conformist can get so much!!! Every party in this story is a wall, a thick wall. THICK AS STEEL!! Why is Bryce so careful in everything he does? Why is Judith so ungrateful for her husband's belief in simplicity? Why does she not try to call her mother out on her persistence and stubbornness? And if she sees her ring and knows that Harley has no business being there, then why does she keep so bleeping quiet?! NO ONE KNOWS!!! As for Judith's mother, is she really that perfect that she does not have to question her own choices or conduct at all? Let's face it. These are not people. They are not even human beings. Otherwise, TP would not suggest that HIV/AIDS is a discriminatory matter. Promiscuity is often a contributor to the contracton of STDs, but who said it stands alone? NOT all people deliberately throw their lives away and then work up the nerve to ask their best friends to stand aside and cheer!!! These characters, to me, are NOT characters. They are pancakes. As is the sloppy narrative structure. And the setting is just a GD STAGE! How about some symbolism or anything to suggest that the drama could unfold anytime anywhere; that D.C. or whereever just happens to be the place? How about some character with depth, with whom everyone who is anyone can actually relate? Sorry, TP, but this dance is over...and out.
For someone who longs to reach and study, who's shooting from one angle ALONE?

The only reason I saw this one was to kill some time. But somehow I knew this film was just another preachy, predictable, pity party of a flop. Those of you who had seen the play ("The Marriage Counselor"), you very much know what is going to happen. In fact, this movie is not even needed--being a repeat of the source material's many flaws and cliches. The trailer for this flick definitely gives a lot away; it is just a two-minute version of this pile of junk. Brice is the workaholic pharmacist; Judith is the attention-and-thrill-craving marriage counselor at a matchmaking service. Such a phony profession, these "matchmakers"! Judith knows that crossing the line of infidelity is a dumb move; yet depsite her better judgment, she goes about it anyway. What is she, dazed and confused? That's an H-bomb. Harley, well, even he must recognize the beneficial rule that says to steer clear of a married woman. Yet, he thinks he's such a player and a #1 stunner. Brice, as educated as he is, does not suspect anything--even with the awkward first encounter with Harley. Brice's cluessness and Harley's pride both form the atomic bomb. And don't start me up on Harley's ex. She is so obvious about what's bugging her; yet she stalls any and all disclosure throughout the picture. The play gave that away, too. (Brandy had how many years to better her performance and her choice of big-screen projects?) That combined with Judith's annoyingly holier-than-thou mother, atomic holohcaust. And the use of domestic violence, the isolation of HIV/AIDS to one crowd or population, the needless dialogue, and the lagging pace? Planet Goes Supernova! Plus, HIV is used as a punishment; big mistake. I see the point and all that implies. Still, BIG MISTAKE. Furthermore, the setting is no setting at all; just a painted backdrop for all the stupidity to unfold. No expansion of the figures' stories. No turning the location into a character in itself. No anything new and different. No matter where TP places these things, it's the same bottom line. THE SAME BOTTOM LINE!!!!!! Reality check: (A) Some, if not most, seductors are trickier than what Harley brings forth. (B) A woman who knows she has a problem would not just stand around playing dumb about who or what it is she's running from. Neither would a man in the same situation, though he would want to be tough and resilient. (C) A married man would ask questions after encountering a fellow man who gives a obvious lusting glance at his wife. (D) Even the most devout of Christian men and women are NOT perfect. (E) Parents would not be that hands-on in stopping a friend or family member from doing something foolish. I mean, they would be hands-on, but in such a public, over-the-top manner. Most of all, (F) a woman or a man raised by such try-hard-to-be-good parents would usually NOT be so easily tempted. Would they not think twice, or try to put the idea out of their minds? By the way, HIV/AIDS threatens everyone; it is NOT limited to one race, class, or some other third thing. SINCE WHEN DOES SUFFERING HAVE TO BE A COMPETITION??? No one truly suffers more or less than anybody, especially from STDs and other lethal ailments. Smollett-Bell could have chosen better. Gross, it's time to leave the TPS nest. One last note of advice: Stay away from "reality" stars. Even they don't know what's real and what's scripted. And no more [obviously] fake accents for phony employers. In all, this projection of the do's and dont's of married life fuels ignorance in the already biased and embarassment in the educated and open-minded. In a sense.
