From DreamWorks Pictures, the studio that brought you The Help, comes the smart and witty drama People Like Us, featuring an all-star cast, including Chris Pine (Star Trek), Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games), award-winning Michelle Pfeiffer and Olivia Wilde. Sam (Pine) is a twenty-something, fast-talking salesman whose latest deal collapses the day he learns his father has suddenly died. Against his wishes, Sam is called home to put his father’s estate in order and reconnect with his estranged family. While there, he uncovers a startling secret that turns his entire world upside down — he has a 30-year-old sister he never knew existed. This is an inspirational and touching movie everyone can relate to.

I'm a fan of the main actors in this movie so was excited to see it. It was only available to buy, not rent, which after watching it must be an iTunes scam... Half kidding. Basically about 40 minutes too long... And a bit Lifetime-ish. Sorry actors Elizabeth, Chris and Michelle - I loved you in 30 Rock, Star Trek and those 80's & 90's movies, respectively. Just an example of clunky movie story-telling.

  • Simple, yet completely entertaining.

I wasn't too sure how this film would turn out when I went to see it, but it had me completely enthralled from beginning to end. While the story does have a few cliches, it's pleasant and unique enough to keep me interested. The cast is incredible, Chris Pine has this natural charisma and unique ability to connect with the audience and, as other reviewers have said, make you believe that he IS the character. Elizabeth Banks is stunning as a guarded recovering alcoholic who is still hurting from her past troubles. Michelle Pfeiffer gives one of her best performances yet, heart-wrenching and honest. And the kid, Michael Hall D'Addario, is naturally believable and real. The ending of the film left me completely satisfied and happy, a sweet, simple story about family, forgiveness and life.
  • Painful to watch

An unrealistic premise, silly stringing together of events in a patchy storyline, and weak character development, make for an eye-rolling, torturous movie to watch. So sad because with this terrific cast of actors and such a great title, I really wanted this movie to be good... No dice. Steer clear.
  • Tough subjects make for good movies.

Going through something similar right now. Watching this helped sort out a few things. This stuff isn't easy. Making a movie about it that strikes the right chords isn't either. Well done.
