Description

Cabiria is an optimistic, romantic, poor young woman who lives off unscrupulous men. On one particularly despairing day, she goes to church to pray. She begs God for a miracle to change her life. Not long after this, she meets a seemingly earnest young man who is willing to marry her. She is at the height of happiness, and she believes she has been saved breaking from her lurid past. She takes all of her savings to follow him, but he vanishes with her money...

Giulietta Masina rips through this film like a wild fire. She makes american actresses look like their just doing it for the money. This woman can fill time and space with emotional lightning. This is my favorite Fellini film. Masina is his wife. You can see why. She is fun.

Fellini´s eye for the ugly post-war italy was so bold. No pretty Umbrian hills or glamorous Rome here. Half-built high rises. Trash-strewn countryside. People living in caves. This must of been one side of Italy after the war. Don´t know Giulietta Masina. But she gives an no-holds-bared performance. Irrepresible. Apparently won Cannes best actress award for this. Deserved it.
