When Beth Emhoff (Gwyneth Paltrow) returns to Minneapolis from business in Hong Kong, what she thought was jet lag takes a virulent turn. Two days later, she’s dead in the ER and the doctors tell her shocked and grieving husband (Matt Damon) they have no idea why. Soon more cases are reported as the virus begins to spread. Researchers mobilize to break the code of this unique biological pathogen as it continues to mutate. Deputy Director Cheever (Laurence Fishburne) tries to allay the growing panic despite his own personal concerns, and must send a brave young doctor (Kate Winslet) into harm’s way. As the death toll escalates and people struggle to protect themselves and their loved ones in a society breaking down, one activist blogger (Jude Law) claims the public isn’t getting the truth about what’s really going on, and sets off an epidemic of paranoia and fear as infectious as the virus itself.

So we’ll written. Amazing how close it is to our current pandemic. They actually underestimated Jude Laws character in todays media. I’ve watched several times.
  • eerily accurate

I saw this in 2011 and knew this was a plausible scenario, based on real scientific facts. the movie was always in the back of my mind as we started the covid pandemic. Now, a year and a half into the pandemic I finally watched it again. The scenario writers deserve a retroactive Oscar for predicting the future.Everything we have experienced in the past 18 months was here. There is the phrase 'social distancing'. There is a blogger selling quack remedies and saying the vaccine was developed 'too quickly'. There is a line with masked people and one man loudly asserting his wish to be unmasked. There is even the bored teenager who breaks lockdown rules. Knowing what we know now, it is amazing how they figured all of this out 10 years ago. Not just the accurate science of viral dissemination, but alse the science of human behaviour faced with a crisis.

Great to watch during Covid to scare the crap out of you even more. Just like watching slasher films in the dark. Plus Matt Damon and Laurence fishburne, my two favorite actors, star in it, and were incredible. Definitely recommended

  • Fantastic movie, but...

Fantastic movie. I love everything about it! The cast, the story, the suspense, everything! But, there’s one problem. Everyone bringing attention to COVID and saying that this movie is like COVID!! And, also, COVID PSAs being added to this movie! I HATE everyone for trying to bring attention to COVID 19!!! South Park is doing it now!! And, what, you guys are poisoning my iTunes library with COVID now?!! But, aside from all that, Contagion is an excellent, awesome movie that’s nothing like today and people are just overreacting.
  • Interesting

Who knew something like that would actually happen, Covid-19. But it was a good movie.

This film is so accurate it scares me still in late 2020, even though COVID hasn’t turned out to be as bad as the virus portrayed in the movie. It portrays a virus originating in China, modern plane transportation speeding up its’ spread, and even the small detail that the virus comes from a bat. I watched this when it came out in 2011, and I had ever heard of contact tracing or r0, but this movie introduced it to me and actually helped me understand this pandemic. This is because the writers took advice from actual scientific advisors. While plot wise this film isn’t the greatest the raw details and accuracy is almost shocking, and for that alone I give this movie 5 stars.
  • Engrossing, well made film that gets it right!

I finally watched this film for the first time a couple of months into the Covid-19 shelter at home mandate and must say that it got everything right! The accuracy of the story is commendable and I think it was even more impressive having experienced at least the beginning of a current day real life version. If you're still incredibly nervous about the events surrounding Covid-19 you may want to proceed cautiously but if you have a healthy grasp of the reality of the current situation I think you will enjoy it. I watched another film recently called False Colors which is very low budget but enjoyable, and approaches this subject matter from a completely different angle. I would suggest both in these days of pandemic.
