I thought since the title was English, that this was the English version, but it turns out this is actually “Män som hatar kvinnor” the Swedish version.

Excellent movie. I like it much better than the remake. The Swedish version is much more authentic and believable. Also, the characters appear more real and lifelike. I prefer to read the subtitles and listen to the original Swedish soundtrack rather than the dubbed version.

I've seen both the American version, and the Swedish. As a Scandinavian I really like how close he got to the feeling of the books. So much darker than the US version. but so much more Swedish. i can't wait to get the 2 other parts!

It took me three or four cracks at the book before I got it. Too much Gladvostk and Vrednostadt. But once I got into it, I was hooked. The Swedish version of the book is 20 times better than the English version - Christopher Plummer's academy award notwithstanding. THe script is better, the casting is better, the staging is better. The English movie is a lot of slick film-making - the Swedish version is grew story…uh, but you have to read. Personally, I would go with the TRILOGY, though, because it has a lot more story. If you've read the book(s) you understand there are a LOT of subplots. It's part of what makes the books so irresistible - once you get in to them. I mean they are DENSE. And you have to buy into Sven, Svern, Sventlana, Svenstadt and on and on to keep going. But once you're in - fantastic. Nyquist and Rapace are much more convincing than Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara. I mean, they weren't awful - but they were much more cartoonish. The trilogy is like nine hours of riveting thriller. No small feat. Hardly what you would expect out of Sweden. I thought Sweden was boring.

Great but it froze in part two and wouldn't play... Not sure if it's just my iPod or the movie

C'mon, Calvin, get wise. Look at the price of the rental; of course it is not the entire series! They don't make those "fashion industry" types too bright, do they?

The movie is excellent - easily 5 stars! However, beware the plot summary in the iTunes advert: while it refers to 9 hours of video, and states that this is the extended edition of the entire series, you only get the first movie. That said, the movie held up well compared to the book and was easily worth $20. I will buy the other two movies as well. Usually movies made from books disappoint. This one stayed very close to the book on all major points. It will be interesting to see if the American version stands up in comparison.

I'm sure Americans have trouble reading subtitles, which is why Hollywood decided to remake this modern classic. But this extended version of this film (I've seen the Swedish abbreviated version with English subtitles) is very good, very complete, very compelling. Three hours pass very quickly, and it's a great ride.
