Description

Based on the international best-selling novel, The Girl Who Played With Fire is the explosive follow-up to the literary and cinematic hit The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. In this second installment of Stieg Larsson’s phenomenal “Millennium” trilogy, Lisbeth Salander is a wanted woman. A researcher and a Millennium journalist about to expose the truth about the sex trade in Sweden are brutally murdered and Salander’s prints are on the weapon. Her history of unpredictable and violent behavior makes her an official danger to society. Mikael Blomkvist, Salander’s friend and Millennium’s publisher, is alone in his belief of Salander’s innocence. Digging deeper, Blomkvist unearths evidence implicating highly placed members of Swedish society – as well as shocking details about Salander’s past. He is desperate to get to her before she is cornered – but no one can find her anywhere.

While sure, Hollywood does some sequels just to pad their pockets, Indie, and foreign film makers MOST of the time do not. It is either to tell the rest of the story, or because the story is in different parts (books, in this case). This movie was NOT made to try to outdo Dragon Tattoo. It's a story all in it's own. Only thing it has in common with Dragon Tattoo is the characters, and is a continuation. Just another chapter in the trilogy. So to compare this one with Dragon Tattoo, is ridiculous. I love all three. But they are all different stories, different movies, not made to one up the previous. This one is my least favorite of the three. BUT, I think they are all GREAT! Not the greatest ever, not going to go over the top, but these flicks are definitely worth the watch. While I agree with another's post, Noomi IS Lisbeth, Rooney Mara does an OUTSTANDING job in the US version. Picking the character for those remakes was a dangerous job, as if you picked a girl with a different experience in movies, Lisbeth is so complex and dark, the wrong actor runs the risk of not being believable. Great job on this movie, stop thinking sequels have to be better than the first movie. Chances are, had this one been the first installment, your thinking could be quite different (although I do agree, Dragon Tattoo is the superior film).

This trilogy is the best I've seen in years. I watched this particular one out of the three twice in a row. I can't remember the last time I've done that with a movie.

Perhaps Swedish acting is too subtle for my American senses to perceive. I thought the acting flaccid in this movie. It seemed like the cast got together, found a few places to shoot, and made a movie in about a month. And the cinematography was static. What is an epic, razor sharp, snappy story in print, is in this film modest, lackluster, and homely.

Swedish actors are very good, so are the choreographer and director, who rival if not better than most American thrillers'. Lisbeth Salander's actress is very good.
