Description

He's the star of the show--but he doesn't know. Jim Carrey wowed critics and audiences alike as unwitting Truman Burbank in this marvel of a movie from director Peter Weir (Witness, Dead Poets Society) about a man whose life is a nonstop TV show. Truman doesn't realize that his quaint hometown is a giant studio set run by a visionary producer/director/creator (Ed Harris), that folks living and working there are Hollywood actors, that even his incessantly bubbly wife is a contract player. Gradually, Truman gets wise. And what he does about his discovery will have you laughing, crying and cheering like few film stories ever have.

I feel like I watched a different movie than the reviews. I only kept watching it waiting for the "wait till you see how he handles it". I really like Jim Carrey and that's what pushed me to rent it. I watched Maverick the night before and it blew this movie away as far as a comedy. If you want to laugh watch that. This is a bomb.

This is one of the greatest movies of all time. Such an amazing plot, such great acting, with such a surrealness to all of it, confusing you and making you think. I love movies that make you think ("2001", not so much). But this masterpiece is such an iconic and fantastic film. I love his funnier films like "Dumb and Dumber", but Jim Carrey, stepping out of his comfort zone, for this, makes me appreciate him even more. This movie got 3 Oscar nominations, but none for Best Picture, which I think wasn't fair. But I can't even go on to point out every great aspect about it. You have to see it for yourself.

Should have won best director and nominated for best picture at the least. I never tire of watching this great piece.

A modern view of Plato’s “The Allegory of the Cave”. 94% on Rotten Tomatoes? That’s got to tell you something.
