Academy Award® winner Jamie Foxx and Jake Gyllenhaal star in this critically acclaimed, brilliantly unconventional war story from Oscar®-winning director Sam Mendes. Jarhead (the self-imposed moniker of the Marines) follows Swoff (Gyllenhaal) from a sobering stint in boot camp to active duty, where he sports a sniper rifle through Middle East deserts that provide no cover from the heat or Iraqi soldiers. Swoff and his fellow Marines sustain themselves with sardonic humanity and wicked comedy on blazing desert fields in a country they don't understand against an enemy they can't see for a cause they don't fully grasp.

  • Underrated film. Very Real.

    By IT_Architect
The cinematography of the film was excellent. There were parts of humor inserted at the right times in realistic implementation. The acting was very good as well as the characters. It was very real, so many soldiers deployed who truly served can certainly relate to this film. It was very sad watching one by one wives and girlfriends abandoning soldiers in real life, just like the movie. Love and war can play cruel jokes on the human mind. I thought the film was done well.
  • Absolute trash

Don’t watch this movie. Any Marine would disapprove of this garbage.

If you are looking for a shoot 'em up war movie, look elsewhere. But if you are looking for a hilarious, accurate representation of the Marines, this is your movie. I'm a Marine and I love how they portrayed the military (as well as the crude humor). Excellent acting and great character development. One of my favorite war movies.

This is a great movie based on the book jarhead written by an actual marine scout sniper Anthony Swofford. For all you haters not every marine kills someone and if you read the book Anthony Swofford didn't kill anyone. Many grunts didn't kill either mainly due to the armor and air assaults by US tanks and jets (also other coalition forces). This movie deserves 5 stars for showing the things that some marines do. (This is my opinion and my facts are valid, my uncle served in the marines during desert storm and he never shot his rifle at an enemy at all)
  • Subtitle is a problem

  • I love it

I love this movie! It may not have all the fight screens as other war movies. But that's why I love it. It shows mental part of war. Yea desert storm didn't really become anything happened ( I can't say much about it but I'm sure something happened) but still it shows how help in the movie changed. Every war movie is different. " every war is the same. Every war is different."- jarhead.
  • Pretty good

It was a good movie but seem to lack the action of a normal war movie. It shows the true emotions of a soldier over seas. It had a good story and cast. Overall it was pretty good
