Description

When a writing assignment lands journalist Raoul Duke (Johnny Depp) and sidekick Dr. Gonzo (Benicio Del Toro) in Las Vegas, they decide to make it the ultimate business trip. But before long, business is forgotten and trip has become the key word. Fueled by a suitcase full of mind-bending pharmaceuticals, Duke and Gonzo set off on a fast and furious ride through nonstop neon, surreal surroundings and a crew of the craziest characters ever (including cameo appearances by Cameron Diaz, Christina Ricci, Gary Busey and many others). But no matter where misadventure leads them, Duke and Gonzo discover that sometimes going too far is the only way to go.

Johnny Depp was incredibly awesome in this movie so as his lawyer Benicio Del Toro both of them were perfect team for the hot summer days in the heart of beautfiul las vegas. Buy this movie if you are a drug person get high with your friends and watch this movie it's the perfect example for a weed expert.

Depending on your view of the world and openness to new ideas this movie may or may not be for you. This is a movie about a book written by a conscious man. I highly recommend.

First. If you are a Depp fan this movie I think is his best work bar none! Rotten Tomatoes Reviews are opinions by mostly overrated critics that really have no clue to what they are talking about. If I could give this anymore stars I assuredly would!!!!!
  • A classic.

I understand why many people did not like the movie, and i myself had a hard time learning to love it at first. Its the kind of film you shouldn't try to understand or make sense of (it is about drugs after all) so just let it happen and don't try to fight it. Its original, clever and if your paying attention or can relate its very funny. I would give it 5/5 but i feel all this imagination could be taken as a excuse for a poor plot. Almost like a collection of skits strung along by the use of drugs. But all in all like i said its just one of those things you should see for yourself.

Gilliam did a pitch perfect job moving this from the bookshelf to the movie shelf. I read the book first a year or two before the movie was released and the book itself was so outlandish and insane that only a man like Terry Gilliam would have been capable of repeating its disorienting substance. Depp of course "was" Thompson and this was verified by Thompsons own involvement with the movie and Depps approach to the man himself. Del Toro was insane as his samoan lawyer Dr. Gonzo even though Gonzo represented more of Thompsons own insane side and Raoul Duke being used as an alias to avoid associating his legal name with the wake of trouble that followed. I love this story.

This is by far my favorite movie, but mainly because Fear and Loathing is a book that shaped who I am as a person and a writer. I expierence these same type of reactions whenever I bring up Hunter S. Thompson and this movie: that it's a ridiculous, drug-crazed film that is all about drugs and partying. But when you actually understand the deep meaning and story (and read the book!) that takes place in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, there's nothing that comes close. Hunter Thompson's work is unlike anything, and can never or will never be duplicated. Listen to the story next time you watch and you'll see what I mean. Like the Good Doctor said, "Morality is Tempoary, Wisdom is Permenant."
