In 1908, an occult manuscript would mystify those interested in metaphysics and the unseen world. The Kybalion, penned by a mysterious author known as Three Initiates, presented seven principles of ancient Hermetic philosophy. These principles can be used in everyday life to empower and heighten your understanding of the universe and your relationship to it. Now, in 2022, The Kybalion is presented for the first time as a feature-length film. Directed by Emmy-nominee Ronni Thomas (AMC’s The Broken and the Bad) and hosted by occult historian Mitch Horowitz (“solid gold”—David Lynch), the film explores in detail each of the seven principles. Each principle is then paired with an expert working within the occult space. Psychics, mediums, alchemists, and parapsychologists give their own perspective on each principle and how it relates to their work and search—and what it reveals for all of us. Dramatic live-action sequences and animation symbolize the book’s principles. The film explains how that is possible — and, why, in fact, it is necessary.

  • Beautifully made, stunningly executed, would watch again.

Loved this journey but what could I expect when you combine the visionary work of Ronni Thomas with the artistic genius of Shane Morton and his team. I hope for many many more films to come out of this team. Makes me wanna pop some edibles get a vending machine chicken pot pie and watch the whole thing again in a bloody super 8 hotel room outside of Austin Texas.

I rented this film thinking it was a documentary about *something* - I found myself kind of entranced and confused but in a good way - a really good way - it was like a really cool trip that I was not expecting.
  • Informative and Gorgeous!

Despite having much prior knowledge on the subject of the film, I found it to be very interesting. I also found it to be beautifully made. Thanks for enlightening me!

The production value was great! Reminded me of some of the really far out otherworldly moments in Mandy - in the best Heavy Metal way possible. So much psychedelic texture! I’d love to see this director take on a more narrative fiction project with this type of aesthetic! Plus, I didn’t expect that lady to be a camel, but good for her! I don’t know that I followed the teachings, but I appreciated the ride regardless, and felt like the inclusion of those more personal explorations were like an anthology film themselves, each included because they depicted the individuals interpretation of the Kybalion teachings. Framing it that way, does that make that Mitch guy like the crypt keeper? Hmm pleasant screams, kiddies…

I’ve never heard of The Kybalion but in quarantine times I’ve been expanding my horizons. There are some really cool visuals in this film and it was more cinematic than documentaries usually are.

I want my 85 minutes back. Don't waste your time on this, zero insights. I feel like my IQ declined 25 points watching this. Poor production value too.
