Jodie Comer gives a stunning performance in this thought-provoking drama set against the brutality of 14th century France from visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott. Based on actual events, the film centers on the accusation by Marguerite de Carrouges (Comer) that she was brutally assaulted by Jacques Le Gris (Adam Driver), her husband Jean de Carrouges’s (Matt Damon) friend. In order to protect his pride and prove his wife’s claim, de Carrouges requests to fight Le Gris to the death. Now, all three lives hang in the balance in this society that holds that the victor of this grisly duel will be determined by God. Moreover, if de Carrouges dies in this fight, Marguerite will be put to death. Also starring Ben Affleck as Le Gris’ scheming ally, the Count d’Alençon, this gripping, cinematic story is based on Eric Jager’s book "The Last Duel: A True Story of Crime, Scandal, and Trial by Combat in Medieval France." The Last Duel is a riveting, suspenseful tale about a courageous woman willing to risk her life in the service of truth.

  • Not just one boring movie…

    By GHinNoVa
… but the same boring movie, three times in a row. The story-told-from-everyone’s-point-of-view is a tediously lazy plot device to sit through in bad half hour sitcoms. It’s even worse in a full length movie with the addition of the same gross, grunting sex scenes over and over. I have no idea why it gets so many good reviews.
  • But why though?

For all that it might have been, it was disappointing. As a period piece it felt accurate, and for what little I know historically of the actual events it seemed loyal to the story. So why did I want to stop watching it on more than one occasion? It wasn’t bad acting. The cinematography was beautiful??? For lack of a better word. It was the actual telling of the story. If they had gone a more conventional route they might have shed more light on the facts or the characters. The way it is, it felt like it should’ve ended after 40 mins.
  • Important historical perspective

  • This really is a good movie

Different perspectives make it really interesting to showcase how people view events so differently, gripping story, just overall really intense & good movie …. Definitely recommend.
  • Huge waste of time

I don’t understand any of these 4 or 5 star reviews because I love 95% of movies and this was terrible. They told the exact same story 3 times in a row and barely changed a single detail or added anything exciting or compelling in each aspect. The last duel itself is solid but I couldn’t believe I had wasted 2+ hours by the time I got to it. The scenery, acting, and costumes were solid but the story was so repetitive I cant recommend it to anyone. A huge waste of such amazing actors
  • Fantastic Film

I’m so glad this story found its way out into the world. Jodie Comer was incredibly moving.
  • Not magical

This was hard to watch. Pretty boring and quite the disappointment. Feel like people will jump on the artistry, but it lacked so much in my opinion.
  • Amazing!!!!

Love Ben Affleck in this film
  • I get it, but…

Did this he said/she said sexual assault story need to be so convoluted within some thrice-told melodrama set during the middle age? So much pointless repeating and medieval violence watered-down a story that could have been told in a more relevant and concise way.
