Oscar® winner Jordan Peele and filmmaker Nia DaCosta unleashes a fresh take on the blood-chilling urban legend: Candyman. For decades the housing projects of Chicago's Cabrini-Green neighborhood were terrorized by a ghost story about a supernatural killer summoned by repeating his name five times into a mirror. In the present day, artist Anthony McCoy (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) moves into the neighborhood, now gentrified beyond recognition. Anxious to maintain his status in the art world, he begins to explore the macabre history of Candyman, which unknowingly unravels his own sanity and unleashes a terrifying wave of violence that puts him on a collision course with destiny.

Could have been a much better story. You’re telling me dude gets stug on his hand by a bee and literally waits til his hand is falling off until he gets it checked out by a doctor.
  • Racist regardless of politics…

In this movie, it claims to go after the ‘privileged’ but it turns out only white people are racists, so no need to spoil the rest. Absolutely disappointing.
  • Amazing (and I’m white!)

I’m a white male who as some reviewers have said was NOT offended by this movie and think it’s a beautiful statement that provokes though, a movie that is necessary these days. Have a good day!

    My review should say enough
  • Racist garbage

What a load of trash. Movie completely drops the whole horror aspect in lieu of “Hurr durr white people are all racists, all cops are cold blooded murders”. Stop listening to the idiots saying “…it’s not woke, and only trump loving rednecks hate the movie.” Don’t waste your money, time, or brain cells on this garbage.

I rarely take the time to write reviews, but I felt an obligation to dissuade anyone from renting or buying this movie based on the “Fresh Score” of 84% on Rotten Tomatoes. I’m fortunate that I saw this film for free because I had a promo code on Vudu. Although I found the references to the original film clever, this film is a waste of anyone’s time and money.
