A "Beautiful" Comedy!

I never thought comedy could be so beautiful! Big Bear’s scenery attributed to visually appealing aspect along with its cynical comedy. This film tackles relationships, revenge, friendship and just outright craziness! In contrast to the storyline, the scenery created an interesting dynamic that made me see the beauty behind all of the chaos. I definitely recommend this movie, especially for independent film lovers!
An Actual Plot!

While most comedies often lack a plot, or just end abruptly, Big Bear provided me with a complete storyline. Joey Kern did fantastic on his directorial and screenwriting debut. The film gave me a few life lessons, that actually opened my eyes and gave me insight on my own life. The ending of the film left me with no open-ended questions as to what was going to happen next. I try to avoid films that have cliffhangers or don’t provide me with a complete story, and this is a film that I suggest you not avoid.

A bachelor party gone very wrong results in an unexpected turn. Friendships are tested, the idea of revenge is challenged and fears are conquered. This film takes us on an dramedy roller coaster ride with four guys who love booze, it’s bound to be raunchy and full of laughs. Like they say, what happens in Big Bear, stays in Big Bear.
Hilariously Unique Comedic

No one can raise your spirits like a best friend can. The comradery in Big Bear is what, for me, made the movie extremely fun to watch. My favorite moment in the movie was when Nick hilariously attempted to compare Joe’s heartbreak to losing a barber. Big Bear was absolutely outrageous and I would definitely recommend to anyone looking to sit back and have a good time!

A great story of four friends who take matters into their own hands to even the playing field when Joe’s (Joey Kern) fiancée cheats on him. Pablo Schreiber, Adam Brody, and Joey Kern make the comedy laugh-out-loud start to finish. The added drama left me on the edge of my seat for what would happen. Very relatable and would recommend!
All Around Great Film

There’s something about a good comedy that can just brighten your mood. I didn’t just find myself laughing throughout the entire movie, but found myself in a better mood than when I started the film. Director Joey Kern succeeds in making not only a hilarious comedy, but also a movie that makes you emphasize with the characters and the story. Kern plays Joe who after being left by his fiancée for another man, is forced by his friends to go out for a wild, drunken night that leads to self-discovery and questioning their friendship after finding the guy who stole Joe’s fiancée tied up in the basement. Joe has to figure out if he has grown up too much to deal with their immaturity while also dealing with heartbreak. Even though the story only takes place in a weekend, the brief time we spend with each character is still able to see them past surface level. This film takes the best aspects of comedy and drama to produce a great movie that I would highly recommend.
Comedic but enlightening

From relationships to revenge to self-discovery, Big Bear is not your typical dude movie. Although this movie would obviously appeal to men (hence the bachelor party), the tie in of dramatic elements would make this film appeal to just about any audience. I really loved that this movie not only captured the humorous aspects about what can go wrong at a bachelor party, but it also was able to portray valuable life lessons for anyone to take home with them. I’d recommend this film to anyone looking for a good laugh with a deeper plot.

Big Bear, Joey Kern’s directorial debut film, touches the hearts of those who have been heartbroken and have danced with the idea of revenge. The dramedy promises laughter, but also touches on the humane traits of the main character (Joe). Director, writer, and star, Joey Kern reminds me of how even the innocent can dabble with an inner villain when Joe finds himself listening to his darker side as he faces his fiancée’s lover who is tied-up in the basement. Through the unanticipated revenge plot, Kern reveals all unanswered questions of a breakup allowing the heartbroken a comedic relief. This film is a must-see for anyone who has been dumped and was never given an explanation.

The film is beautifully crafted from Joey Kern’s mind. He both directed and wrote it in an impressive way for his first project. Kern successfully joined together every scene from beginning to end for a movie that has a lot of ups and downs and scenes that are heavy in comedy with a serious undertone. The editor, Franklin Peterson, also did an amazing work and you can feel the chemistry between the two filmmakers, because Big Bear feels alive in every scene and it has a rhythm that won’t let you lose your focus for an hour and a half.

This movie is the ultimate combination of the “not so typical dude” movie, full of raunchy and crude humor, and the charismatic drama that is associated with the reality of relationships.
With this being his first-time feature, Joey Kern, writer and director, not only fully grasps the unexpected truths of heartbreak, but is able to fully portray the starring role of Joe, a thirty-something guy that was dumped two weeks before his wedding. With a supporting cast that includes notable players, such as Pablo Schreiber (Orange is the New Black), Adam Brody (The O.C.), Zachary Knighton, and Tyler Labine, Kern offers a comedic insight into the extent to which friends are willing to go to help each other out. I thoroughly recommend this movie to those that love to get a good laugh.
