Absolutely insane level of violence with phenomenal effects. The big draw of this movie is the fact that they did incredible PRACTICAL effects on a very limited budget. Let me tell you, this doesn't look like a indie film at all, it is extremely polished and the practical effects are 9.5/10, best practical gore I have seen in years. CG in horror movies is extremely lame and ages badly, whereas this will still look 100% convincing in 50 years. Anyone trying to say in other reviews that the practical effects are not top notch has no clue what they're talking about! More than likely the ones complaining are kids who are used to superhero flicks where it is nonstop CG effects, and can't appreciate the value of practical visuals. Go back to your comic book movies for children kiddos, and the adults will enjoy this movie! Really wild ride, I am not even a horror film fan and thoroughly enjoyed it, highly recommend!

This was good, not GREAT but a pleasant surprise. It’s very difficult to get this sort of horror adapted well to film, but this one does a pretty good job of it.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much dialogue and overacting. Less would have been so much more. Cool general story. Overall, the monsters and FX were AWESOME and made it worth a watch

A decent premise and cool art/sound design do absolutely nothing to combat the contribed plotting and wildly boring story that goes nowhere. Don't let the interesting visuals fool you, they're not enough to carry this movie. If you want a visually amazing horror film that actually delivers on quality checkout "Beyond the Black Rainbow". It's slow, but unlike "The Void" it is actually worth a watch.
  • Even if you like Lovecraft/cosmic horror, don't bother

As a huge fan of Lovecraft and the cosmic horror genre in general, I was so stoked when I saw the trailers for this film. The premise seemed fresh, the tension palpable, what more could one hope for . . . . MEHH. Needless to say, I left the film feeling very disappointed. While "the Void" may have some interesting ideas and old fashioned effects, these are no substitute for it's convoluted plot, the poor acting, and the TOTALLY UNECESSARY romantic subplot between two of the main characters. Romance and cosmic horror do not make good bedfellows. I was honestly rooting for the cult to take Alison out just so I didn't have to watch her mediocre presence any longer. I think this film deserves such a bad rating because of what it failed to be. Had "The Void" done several things differently, this could've been a decent cosmic horror film, something of which I think there is a great 'void' within the film industry (see what I did there). Alas, "The Void" fails to fill said void, and so the cosmic horror genre will probably not be making it into box offices anytime soon, thanks to this utter failure of a film. Don't bother wasting your movie night on this one. If you want good horror films with likable characters, cosmic elements, and actual effects (not that green screen bull), I advise sticking to the classics, such as the Thing, Hellraiser (but only the first 2), and heck, even the Mist (2007) is better than this void.

As i sit here currently watching Prince of Darkness i’ve come to the conclusion that The Void is very much like The Thing and the Prince Of Darkness. You deal with some sort of evil in a building you face IT with. The antics, material, and darkness covered in these two films are explored in The Void, but not explained. What i mean is, where Prince of Darkness has a way of explaining itself along the progress of its deterioration into hell with evil creep factors galore, The Void has no explanation. And this is why i like this movie when others don’t. It may not click, may not understand, or find any reason to make sense, but i like it’s open ended. Cults are scary and I wouldn’t mess with them. Yes, there is a lot more that can be explored here, and i am curious; however, i’m grateful for my hand not being lead into a world thriving full of Thing creatures. Special effects is by far the reason to check it out. I love old school effects for they pay off in the longer run. Please, don’t miss out. Anyways, The Void isn’t what you’d expect in your Hollywood flair. In my own opinion, that’s good, other’s would deny for some other reason. There is something old school and something mysterious about this movie that is fresh. It may not have the philosophy of Prince of Darkness, but it has atleast the effects, isolation, and psyochologicalness of the aforementioned two films. This was my first movie review on iTunes, thanks for reading. Talk Movies To Me

This would have been good if there was some sort of explanation before or after the movie. And how the doctor and the pregnant teen had something to do with everything. BOO!

I felt that this movie was more sci-fi then a scary horror flick. Like others, it is a cross between hell raiser but also blended with a drama and hint of suspense similar to the movie tremors. It would be something I would expect to see on the sci-fi channel. Interestingly, I thought that the actor Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) starred in this movie as it looked like him! Similar face and almost similar name (Aaron Poole)!
