Description

In Julieta, critically acclaimed director Pedro Almodovar tells a story about a mother’s struggle to survive uncertainty and come to grips with fate. Julieta lives in Madrid with her daughter Antia. They are both in pain over the loss of Xoan, Antia’s father and Julieta’s husband. But sometimes grief doesn’t bring people closer, it drives them apart. When Antia turns eighteen, she abandons her mother without a word of explanation. Julieta is haunted by the mystery of this loss and it pervades everything in her life. Her struggle and obsession lead to self discover and surprising revelations. Evoking such earlier Almodóvar films as High Heels and All About My Mother, Julieta reflects on the magic of chance encounters and the fragility of relationships in the face of long-buried secrets.

Tragedy and loss play hard with romance and motherhood in this deep intrigue, a tale that turns in on itself as the characters do, too. Inexplicable pain consumes a mother-daughter relationship and we make a long, loving journey into the heart to find the truth. It's a tale with a tinge of hope, in a woman's world of intense passion and white-hot anger. You will be carried along by actresses and a director who perform quite marvelously. Hearts do not empty of love. They sometimes shut down. This film is about reopening, a process as painful as childbirth.

When love and destiny ride on the same train, witch one is responsible for the accident ? Almodovar knows how to ask a good question in beautiful saturated colors.

This movie is a great piece of film making on all levels. It should go down as a legitimate classic for its outstanding level of production. Absolutely perfect!

Almodovar is a genius storyteller. This movie is as good as his other wonderful movies. Julieta shows what grief really feels like. I can't wait to watch this movie again. Two thumbs up!
