Academy Award® winner Nicolas Cage and sexy Penelope Cruz electrify the screen in this romance from director John Madden. Cage stars as Captain Antonio Corelli, an Italian officer whose company of soldiers is sent to Cephalonia, a beautiful Greek island untouched by war. A free spirit with a passion for music and romance, Corelli is enchanted by Cephalonia and its people - especially Pelagia (Cruz), the gorgeous, proud daughter of the island's doctor (John Hurt). Engaged to a local fisherman (Christian Bale), Pelagia resists Corelli's attentions, but the kind and charming captain weakens her defenses. Surrendering their hearts, Corelli and Pelagia begin a heated affair. But before love can grow, the war crashes on Cephalonia's shores, forcing Corelli and Pelagia to make dangerous sacrifices for country and home...and risk losing each other forever.

  • Terrible

Whether or not you have read the book you will hate the movie, but if you've read the book you'll hate it even more. Penelope Cruz doesn't even try to do a Greek accent. Nicholas Cage is a terrible actor and the story line is impossible to follow.
  • Hate it.

This movie tries too hard, and it fails. Worse yet, I couldn't stand the ridiculously terrible accents. Horrid. I lasted about 40 minutes and had to shut it off. This movie was just too manufactured.
  • Dont listen to Rotten Tomatoes

This movie is very good. Shooting on location in Cephalonia adds to the visual beauty of the film. This is a very good romantic drama set in WWII with some real life events included such as the great earthquake that devastated the island after the war. The Rotten Tomatoes critics are just a bunch of clueless ham&eggers. They know nothing. I have seen this movie many times and it always leaves me with a good feeling at the please dont listen to them....they know nothing....this movie is very good.
  • A overlooked beautiful gem

lovely to watch, beautiful landscapes moving romance. She still must be insane not to go with Christian Bale though...
